Hawaiian Hemp: An Economic Analysis of the Hawaiian Hemp Industry

The objective of this report is to provide an economic impact assessment of the potential of the hemp industry for the Hawaiian economy. It will provide an overview of the current agricultural sector in Hawaii and a forecast for the hemp industry’s economic influences over the next decade. It examines the current business environment, provides a revenue forecast for the industry, a forecast by acres and predictions of how the industry will evolve in the future. It also provides policy recommendations to the state. This report is intended for use by a diverse audience ranging from investors and operators to policy makers and legislators.  It was paid for by a grant from the State of Hawaii Agricultural sector. Experts from the Hawaiian hemp industry collaborated with Whitney Economics to produce this report. This report is also intended to serve as a baseline for others to use as the hemp industry matures across the United States.
